Professional Development Courses

There are a lot of professional development courses available to therapists - both in person, and online. It can be overwhelming and confusing to figure out which courses will be most valuable to your development as a therapist.

To give you a starting point, we have compiled a list of PD courses that we recommend. If there are any courses that you are interested in completing, please discuss this with your clinical supervisor prior to booking.

Recommended Professional Development Courses

CME Therapy

At Mighty Kids Therapy, we regularly use CME therapy techniques to assist clients to achieve their gross motor goals. CME Therapy is our most recommended course for Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists.

NSMDA

The NSMDA course is available to equip therapists to administer the NDMSA standardised assessment on babies and children 1 month to 6 years of age.

TASES Therapy

TASES therapy uses functional electrical stimulation to assist with muscle activation and sensory input. At Mighty Kids, we have seen great results with TASES, particularly on children with muscle spasticity. They have various courses that would suit Physiotherapists, Exercise Physiologists, and Occupational Therapists.

OAPL Plagiocephaly / Torticollis

The OAPL course is useful for physiotherapists who are interested in treating plagiocephaly and torticollis in babies. It is run by a local orthotic company and provides an overview of helmet therapy.

The OT Lab

The OT Lab runs training sessions and workshops to help Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists to develop their skills in postural care, wheelchair seating, and clinical reasoning for assistive technology prescription.

ILS Training Courses

Each year, Independent Living Specialists (ILS) Kids runs courses in Brisbane and the Gold Coast to introduce therapists to different types of assistive technologies they supply. This is a great introduction to Physiotherapists or Occupational Therapists who are new to assistive technology, or who want to stay up-to-date on new products.

Spinal Stimulation

Spinal Stimulation uses electrical stimulation to assist with reducing the severity or slowing the progression of spinal abnormalities, such as scoliosis. We have seen great results using Spinal Stimulation with some of our clients at Mighty Kids Therapy.
